What does Koru do?
Many of us are currently striving towards a new approach to doing business, in which financial, social and ecological interests are balanced and interconnected. The choice of approach depends on the phase your organisation is in. Koru is ready to act as a discussion partner and sparring partner to guide you through these challenges and quests.
Origin of Koru
Koru Consulting was founded in 2015 by Dr Diane Zandee RC, an advisor in the field of the circular economy and the financial challenges associated with it. Experience has taught us that a financial proposition and a sustainable business model do not always go hand in hand easily and sometimes do not fit within the established accounting frameworks. This is despite the fact that the circular economy offers opportunities for a more sustainable world where social, ecological and financial goals can be linked. Sustainability therefore affects not only all aspects of the organisation, but also the entire value chain or the surrounding ecosystem.
The essence of Koru
‘Koru’ is a Maori word that describes the spiral shape with which a fern leaf buds anew every year. This powerful symbol of renewal and positive change reflects our dedication to helping organisations accelerate their sustainability efforts within Koru Consulting. We do this through well-thought-out strategies and tangible actions. Koru Consulting focuses on sustainability, connection, reliability and innovation.
Our Team
In 2015, Diane Zandee was the driving force behind the birth of Koru Consulting. As a sustainability expert, she is not only in demand for a wide range of projects and advisory processes and as a valued speaker, but she also embraces the principle that ‘the more, the merrier.’ That is why she has decided to expand her team with talented people who, together with her, will accelerate sustainability and make the business world greener. After all, making sustainability work is really a team effort!

About: Diane (1977) founded Koru Consulting in 2015. Diane is an assistant professor at Nyenrode University. Her research and teaching focus on the financial side of sustainability, with a focus on the circular economy. She looks at the role of the financial sector, controllers and accountants, and the tools that support them.
The interest in sustainability arose at Eneco, where financial and procurement functions contributed to the energy transition. This was followed by financial CFO and senior procurement roles at companies such as NS (Dutch Railways), Schiphol Airport and various start-ups and scale-ups. As a result, broad experience has been gained with financial challenges and opportunities in sustainable business operations.
In 2023, a doctoral research project on the circular economy and financial obstacles was completed. The insights gained are now being applied to help organisations in their transition to a more sustainable and financially sound model.
Role: She has extensive experience in integrating sustainable strategy, designing sustainable business models and the requirements of the CSRD. She has a broad network of experts in the field of stakeholder management, change management and sustainable transitions. She is also available as a speaker. Through the combination of her knowledge, experience and eternal optimism, she has been able to take organisations on this journey. She has an inspiring way of transforming complex and abstract subjects into practical, concrete and result-oriented action plans for sustainability.
